Western Australia’s department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety have put together various workplace statistics to give a snapshot of WA’s workplace injury, disease and fatality hot spots.

The following is a summary of some statistics to note:

Falls From a Height

Work related traumatic injury fatalities in the past 5 years:

  • 12 Fatalities
  • 4 caused in building and construction
  • 2 caused by openings in floors, walls and ceilings

Work related lost time injuries and diseases in the past 5 years:

  • 1,148 lost time injuries and diseases
  • 84% were serious
  • 99 days lost per LTI/D
  • $60,674 estimated cost per LTI/D

Hit by Moving Objects

Work related traumatic injury fatalities in the past 5 years:

  • 16 Fatalities
  • 4 caused by road transport vehicles
  • 3 caused by support equipment

Work related lost time injuries and diseases in the past 5 years:

  • 1,654 lost time injuries and diseases
  • 63% were serious
  • 46 days lost per LTI/D
  • $29,644 estimated cost per LTI/D

Mental Stress

High risk industry subdivisions in the past 5 years:

  • 19% Public Order, Safety and Regulatory Services
  • 16% Hospitals
  • 15% School Education

Work related lost time injuries and diseases in the past 5 years:

  • 431 lost time injuries and diseases
  • 92% were serious
  • 149 days lost per LTI/D
  • 82,389 estimated cost per LTI/D
