This Orange Card course contains Operate elevating work platform, Operate elevating work platforms up to 11 metres, and Work safely at heights units of competencies.

Course content

SCISSOR LIFT TRAINING COURSE CONTENT

  • Operate scissor lift
    • Operate in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions 
    • Manoeuvre in tight areas in forwards and reverse
    • Operate scissor lift slowly and accurately
    • Conduct tasks at height
    • Use the push-out deck
  • Complete scissor lift operations
    • Park safely
    • Conduct post-operation inspection
    • Complete fault recording in logbook

BOOM LIFT (UNDER 11 METRES) COURSE CONTENT

  • Operate self-drive boom lift under 11 metres
    • Operate in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions 
    • Understand the Load Chart and how to get the maximum height and / or reach from the EWP
    • Manoeuvre in tight areas in forwards and reverse
    • Operate self-drive boom lift slowly and accurately
    • Conduct tasks at height, including driving at height
    • Use all functions on the self-drive boom lift under 11 metres 
  • Complete self-drive boom lift under 11 metres operations
    • Park safely
    • Pack up
    • Conduct post-operation inspection
    • Complete fault recording in logbook

WORK SAFELY AT HEIGHTS COURSE CONTENT

  • Off the job (theory)

    • Legal Requirement and Guidance Material
    • Definition of Working at Heights
    • Fall Restraint v Fall Arrest
    • Pendulum effect
    • Hazards associated with Fall Arrest Harnesses
      • Suspension Trauma
      • Positional Asphyxia
      • Injuries from incorrectly fitted harness
    • Emergency Plan / Rescue Plan

    On the job (practical)

    • Conduct risk assessment/ SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement)
    • Inspect FIPS (Fall Injury Prevention Systems) and Fall Arrest Harnesses
    • Safe use of Fall Arrest Harnesses (use two different harnesses)
    • Conduct self rescue
    • Use Fall Injury Prevention Systems including: fall arrest harness, ladder, ladder bracket, adjustable lanyard, static line, static line shuttle, industrial inertia reel, adjustable rope lifeline with energy absorber and brake device, anchor points, carabiners, descender suspension trauma straps

Course requirements

  • Prior to course commencement the learner is required to review the ETI Learner Handbook, all terms and conditions, and policies that apply to this course, found at found at Terms & Conditions/Policies page
  • For all training conducted on Equip-Safe premises, learners must wear suitable work clothing and fully enclosed shoes (Safety boots/shoes are preferable).  All other protective gear, i.e. hard hats will be supplied.

We offer three different levels of Orange Card training - Scissor lift only, Scissor lift and Boom lift, and Scissor lift, Boom, and Working Safely at Heights.

Certification & assessment

A statement of attainment will be issued detailing the unit/s of competency completed. The Equip-Safe Orange Card will also be issued detailing the unit/s of competency achieved and the class of training (SL, BL, WSAH) as applicable.
