The Western Australian Government is building and up-skilling the workforce through a range of free future skills courses. This Construction Industry Preparation Skill Set is a fully funded training course thanks to WA’s Future Skills initiative

Equip-Safe's Construction Industry Preparation Skill Set provides essential training for individuals seeking to work or those working in the electrotechnology, construction, plumbing and services, renewables and clean energies, resources, mining, and infrastructure industries.

You'll learn how to operate an elevating work platform (scissor lift), safely operate self-propelled boom lifts (under 11 metres), work at heights, and apply workplace safety practices in various industry settings.

This training is nationally recognised, and the skill set is approved by the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD).

Thanks to state government funding to help build WA’s skilled workforce, this skill set is available fee-free,* designed to help you obtain construction skills, which are utilised across a wide range of industries. Scissor Lift

This unit prepares you to operate an elevating work platform (EWP Scissor Lift) at any height, in line with the National Standard for High-Risk Work. While it doesn’t provide a High-Risk Work Licence, it establishes the critical skills and knowledge needed to work safely and effectively with EWPs in various work environments.

EWP (under 11 metres)

Gain the skills needed to safely operate scissor lifts, and self-propelled boom lifts (under 11 metres) across various worksites, including residential, commercial, and industrial. The training emphasises safe equipment set-up, operation, and shutdown, adhering to industry standards for safe EWP use.

Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

This unit provides mandatory work health and safety (WHS) induction training. You will learn how to identify and manage common workplace hazards, apply risk control measures, and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies, meeting jurisdictional requirements under the Model WHS Regulations and state-specific frameworks.

Work safely at heights

This unit equips you with the necessary skills to safely undertake tasks at height within the resource and infrastructure industries. You’ll learn to identify potential hazards, implement safety controls, and use fall protection systems, all while complying with industry-specific legislative and regulatory requirements.

Course requirements

  • Prior to course commencement the learner is required to review the ETI Learner Handbook, all terms and conditions, and policies that apply to this course, found at found at Terms & Conditions/Policies page.
  • For all training conducted on Equip-Safe premises, learners must wear suitable work clothing and fully enclosed shoes (Safety boots/shoes are preferable).  All other protective gear, i.e. hard hats will be supplied.

Certification & assessment

A statement of attainment will be issued detailing the units of competency completed. The Equip-Safe Orange Card will also be issued detailing the units of competency achieved and the class of training (SL, BL, WSAH) as applicable. Your construction induction training card (white card) will also be issued.

The Electrotechnology Training Institute Limited (ETI), trading as Equip-Safe, Skills Recognition Policy applies to those individuals seeking formal recognition of their competency(s) through the granting of, or credit towards, an Australian Qualifications Framework Training Package qualification, unit of competency or Vocational Education and Training (VET) accredited course.
