Where can I find the Equip-Safe courses, including any fees and descriptions?

What do I need to do if I wish to register or enrol for one of your courses?

Please go to our Courses page and enrol online or download the brochure and forward the registration form for the training you wish to complete. Alternatively, you can contact us, and we can help you through the process.

How do I secure my course booking?

Please note that your position on a course can only be secured if we receive full payment of course fees*, and have recieved your enrolment via our online portal.  Please visit the course registration section for further details.

*This may not be the case in fee-free courses. Please call Equip-Safe to discuss should you have any questions.

Am I eligible for CTF subsidised fees?

CTF subsidised course fees may be available to persons currently working in the building and construction industry, or unemployed persons who have worked in that trade in the previous six months. However, it is not available on all courses.

The fee subsidy does not apply to persons working in the security and mining industries or Government employees.

General questions: Free and reduced-fee training courses

Are all those courses completely free?  

Yes, course fees do not apply as Skill Sets are 100% free-free for all* students and do not incur resource or course fees.

* some eligibility conditions apply for the free training. All enquiries regarding eligibility, should be made to admin@equipsafe.com.au or refer below.

Who can access Fee free or low fee courses?

You must have left school*, have your primary place of residence in Western Australia, and are either: 

  • an Australian citizen; or
  • a permanent visa holder; or
  • holders of a sub-class 309, 444, 785, 790, or 820 visa; or
  • secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 457 or 482 visa; or
  • a bridging visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051) who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 785 or 790;
  • Ukraine citizens who are holders of a visa subclass 449 or 786;
  • Afghan citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449; or
  • Holders of a bridging visa who are eligible to work and who have made a valid application for a subclass 866.
  • a dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457
  • a bridging visa holder who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 866; or 

Year 12 school students who are leaving school can access a subsidised training place from 23 October 2024. 

First Nations people, young people, people out of work or receiving income support, unpaid carers, people with disability, and women facing economic insecurity are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for fee free training. 

Please note that existing worker trainees are not eligible for the fee-free arrangements.

What I already hold a unit that forms part of the Fee-free Skill Set?

You are still able to undertake the Skill Set training if you already hold one or more of the units of competency that form the Skill Set.

Do I need to bring ID?

We require at least one form of ID for all our courses. However, the below courses have additional ID requirements prescribed by Regulations including WorkSafe WA.

We will need to see the originals of: one form of primary documentation (such as your driver’s licence or passport); OR at least three forms of secondary ID, with at least one of these documents showing your full name and date of birth.

  • TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck Forklift
  • TLILIC0005 - Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)
  • CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card)
  • AF301 - Construction Industry Preparation Skill Set (Fee-free training)

Do I need a USI?

In Australia, all learners who enrol in nationally recognised training must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). We are unable to issue any qualifications or statements of attainment without one. Additionally, you will not be able to access any government or industry funding unless we have received it.

You can easily find or obtain your USI by searching or applying online.

Fee free building and construction courses

Which building and construction courses are now fee free?

The seven pre-apprenticeship courses added to the fee free list are: 

  • Electrotechnology Pre-apprenticeship* 
    • Plumbing Pre-apprenticeship*
    • Brick and Block Laying Pre-apprenticeship*
    • Wall and Floor Tiling Pre-apprenticeship*
    • Painting and Decorating Pre-apprenticeship*
    • Carpentry Pre-apprenticeship*
    • Cabinet Making and Timber Technology Pre-apprenticeship

*Denotes course previously subsidised under Lower fees, local skills.

Who is eligible for the fee free building and construction courses?

All Australian citizens, permanent visa holders and some temporary visa holders, whose primary residence is in Western Australia are eligible to access free training through fee free courses. This includes new and continuing students.

Existing worker trainees are not eligible for the fee free arrangements. 

Where are the fee free building and construction courses available?

The fee free courses will be available at WA TAFE colleges and Department of Training and Workforce Development approved private training providers. 

When will the new building and construction courses become free?

These courses will become fee free from 1 January 2025 until the end of 2026.

All students who enrol in one of the fee free building and construction courses in 2025 and 2026 at a TAFE college or approved private training provider will be able to complete their course under the fee free arrangement.

All enquiries regarding eligibility, course and resource fees should be made to the TAFE college or private training provider. 

Do students need to pay other fees, such as for resources?

There are no course fees for fee free courses.

  • Students may need to pay other fees for full qualifications, such as a resource fee for materials used during the course.
  • Skill sets are 100% fee-free for all* students and do not incur resource fees or course fees.

TAFE colleges or approved training providers will be able to provide details of any additional fees that apply to the course students are interested in.
